Basketball Recap: Cajon Takes a Loss

Cajon lost against Yucaipa back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Cajon Cowboys took a 56-38 bruising from the Yucaipa Thunderbirds. While losing is never fun, the Cowboys can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 734th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 314th).

When it comes to explaining why Cajon lost, don't look at Jasmine Jackson. Despite the final result, she posted seven points.

Brianna Elgan was her usual excellent self, going 10 of 20 on her way to 26 points along with eight steals and five assists for Yucaipa. The dominant performance gave Elgan a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Johanna Thames, who scored eight points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals.

Cajon's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Yucaipa, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-10.

Cajon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 59-12 loss against Beaumont on the 21st. Yucaipa has also already played their next matchup, a 47-34 defeat against El Dorado on the 20th.
