Basketball Recap: Weston Ranch Takes a Loss

Weston Ranch was the 50-43 winner over Franklin when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Weston Ranch Cougars came up short against the Franklin Yellowjackets on Tuesday, falling 66-46. The Cougars just can't catch a break and have now endured six losses in a row.

Despite the defeat, Weston Ranch saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lila Harper almost dropped a triple-double on ten points, 14 boards, and nine steals. Harper has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last seven times she's played. Sonja Daniels was another key player, putting up ten points.

Leading Franklin to victory were Kiara Salcedo and Nicole Belasco. Salcedo went 6 for 12 en route to 12 points along with seven assists and five rebounds, while Belasco went 8 of 16 on her way to 17 points in addition to six steals and five boards. The dominant performance gave Salcedo a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Carmen Walker, who posted nine points and three steals.

Weston Ranch's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Franklin, their record is now 8-11.

Weston Ranch didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-30 defeat against Edison on the 29th. Franklin has also already played their next game, a 53-49 victory against Bear Creek on the 30th.
