Basketball Recap: Wyoming Valley West's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak at Home

Wyoming Valley West came into Monday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Berwick Bulldogs on Monday as the Wyoming Valley West Spartans made off with a 46-26 victory. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 228th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 488th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Berwick saw an underclassman step up: freshman Abby Calarco posted 15 points and seven boards. Grace Robbins was another key player, putting up four points and seven rebounds.

Wyoming Valley West's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-8. As for Berwick, they dropped their record down to 2-13 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wyoming Valley West will venture away from home to face off against Berwick at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Berwick has already played their next match (against Pittston), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
