Basketball Recap: Soledad Takes a Loss

If Soledad was feeling good fresh off their 66-21 takedown of Everett Alvarez last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Soledad Aztecs took a 50-36 bruising from the Watsonville Wildcatz on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Aztecs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 508th, while the Wildcatz are ranked 235th).

Watsonville found their leader in freshman Isabella Alvarez, who went 11 of 23 to rack up 25 points and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Alvarez has scored all season. Brianna Leon was another key player, putting up two points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

Soledad's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Watsonville, their victory bumped their record up to 17-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Soledad will face off against Salinas at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Salinas will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Soledad surely won't give up without a fight. As for Watsonville, they will challenge Monterey at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
