Softball Recap: Bixby Takes a Loss

Bixby was the 11-0 winner over Collinsville when they last played one another back in August of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Spartans fell 12-9 to the Cardinals on Thursday. Spartans fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Cardinals since Thursday.

Heidi Gruenwald and Emme Friedrichsen did some serious damage despite the final result: Gruenwald went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Friedrichsen went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Kenzie Howard was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Bixby and nudges their season record down to 14-16. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Collinsville, their victory bumped their record up to 7-19.

Looking ahead, Bixby will take on Durant at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Collinsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
