Soccer Game Preview: Monroe vs. Poly

The Monroe Vikings will take on the Poly Parrots at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped with close wins against their previous opponents.

Monroe's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Arleta 1-0. The victory was some much needed relief for Monroe as it spelled an end to their three-match losing streak.

Meanwhile, Poly hadn't done well against North Hollywood recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Parrots beat the Huskies by a goal, winning 3-2. The win was all the more spectacular given Poly's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 869th, while North Hollywood are ranked 182nd).

Valerie Aguilera and Mia Banuelos scored all three of Poly's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 13 goals.

Monroe's victory bumped their record up to 2-6-2. As for Poly, their win bumped their record up to 4-5-3.
