Football Game Preview: Humboldt Cubs vs. Sabetha Bluejays

The Humboldt Cubs will venture away from home to take on the Sabetha Bluejays at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Humboldt has given up an average of 29.1 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Humboldt is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 40 points two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Central Heights on Friday. They came up short against the Vikings, falling 32-6.

Humboldt might have lost, but man, Broc Ivy was a machine: he picked up 79 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 64 yards. Ivy showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 65 yards.

Meanwhile, Sabetha got the win against St. Marys on Friday by a conclusive 28-6. Considering the Bluejays have won four games by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Humboldt better keep an eye on Will Voos. He was instrumental in Sabetha's win, rushing for 224 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. Those 224 rushing yards gave Voos a new career-high.

Sabetha was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 326 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 186 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Humboldt's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Sabetha, their record now sits at 7-1.

Humboldt was dealt a bruising 49-18 defeat at the hands of Sabetha when the teams last played back in November of 2023. Can the Cubs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
