Soccer Game Preview: El Monte vs. Marshall

El Monte is 1-9 against Marshall since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The El Monte Lions will challenge the Marshall Eagles at 3:30 p.m.

El Monte is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to four goals on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Mountain View on Thursday. They came up short against the Vikings, falling 4-1.

Meanwhile, Marshall had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 goals) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 4-1 margin over the Eagles. Marshall might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by three goals or more this season.

Marshall pushed their record up to 7-1-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 19 goals over those four games. As for El Monte, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.

El Monte skirted past Marshall 1-0 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for El Monte since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
