Baseball Game Preview: Augusta Prep Day Cavaliers vs. Wardlaw Academy Patriots

The Augusta Prep Day Cavaliers will face off against the Wardlaw Academy Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wardlaw Academy took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Augusta Prep Day, who comes in off a win.

Augusta Prep Day barely beat Westside the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Augusta Prep Day put the hurt on Westside with a sharp 22-8 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Cavaliers have won three matchups by more than 12 runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Scott Williams and Shae Joniec made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Williams tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Joniec tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Williams gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Williams got on base in all six of his plate appearances with five RBI and one double, while Joniec scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. What's more, Joniec posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, Dakota Dunn was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Hollimon, who scored three runs while going 2-for-5.

Meanwhile, Wardlaw Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 10-0 to Jefferson Davis Academy. The game marked the first time this year in which the Patriots were not able to get on the board.

Augusta Prep Day moved to 3-3 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Wardlaw Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Augusta Prep Day took their victory against Wardlaw Academy in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 18-5. Does Augusta Prep Day have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wardlaw Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
