Softball Recap: Excelsior Springs Sets Scoring Season-High Against Winnetonka

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Excelsior Springs). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Winnetonka Griffins a 13-0 shutout on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Griffins: they've now won six in a row.

Kayden Rogers was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over six innings pitched. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in September of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Keira Romazon was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Haylee Ray, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Excelsior Springs hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.

Excelsior Springs' record is now 6-1. As for Winnetonka, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Excelsior Springs will square off against Kearney at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. As for Winnetonka, they will take on Raytown South at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.56 runs per game on average), something the Griffins will no doubt try to take advantage of.
