Baseball Recap: Sanford Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Sanford extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday, bumping them up to 9-5-1. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Massabesic Mustangs a 3-0 shutout. The Spartans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Mustangs, too.

The result came thanks to Cayden Gendron's shutout, as he gave up just four hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Drew Vessels was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Matty Herbert, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Massabesic, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

On Massabesic's side, Emmett Carroll spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Massabesic saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Soule-Parent, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Sanford will face off against rival Westbrook at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Massabesic is set to take on their familiar foe Scarborough at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
