Baseball Recap: St. Anne-Pacelli Victorious

St. Anne-Pacelli was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Columbus Blue Devils, sneaking past 9-7.

Billy Smith tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaycob Veloz, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Braden Hudson was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

St. Anne-Pacelli's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Columbus, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

St. Anne-Pacelli and Columbus' offenses will be put to the test in their next games. St. Anne-Pacelli and Jordan (who has only given up two runs per game) will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Columbus will face off against Hardaway at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, a squad that's only allowed three runs per game.
