Saranac and Ticonderoga are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Chiefs are taking a road trip to face off against the Sentinels at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Saranac is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Saranac will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Friday, then bounced right back against Saranac Lake on Saturday. The Chiefs put the hurt on the Red Storm with a sharp 17-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Chiefs in their matchups with the Red Storm: they've now won six in a row.
Matt Owen was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Saranac is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-8 otherwise. Owen was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one double. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April.

In other batting news, Saranac let Robbie Squier and Adrian Barnes run wild. Squier went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Barnes got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs. Saranac is undefeated when Squier posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Lawrenz, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Saranac kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Ticonderoga's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Plattsburgh on Saturday. The Sentinels haven't had much luck with the Hornets recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Ticonderoga's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Saranac, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Saranac suffered a grim 15-8 defeat to Ticonderoga when the teams last played back in April. Can the Chiefs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
