The Page Pirates will square off against the Grimsley Whirlies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Page is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Southwest Guilford: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Pirates blew the Cowboys out of the water with a 57-6 final score. The victory continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Cowboys: they've now won five in a row.
Page found their leader in sophomore Zamari Williamson, who threw for 242 yards and five touchdowns on only 18 passes. Christopher Armstrong was Williamson's top target, picking up 102 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Page proved: they limited Southwest Guilford to a paltry 1.8 yards per carry. While two picked up at least five total tackles, Preston Burnette stood above the rest. He picked up a sack and made five total tackles (2.0 for loss) in addition to snagging an interception. Page didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.2.
Page didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Jesse Poole, Iv led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Another thorn in Southwest Guilford's side was Justin Dockery, who made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defended one pass.
Meanwhile, Grimsley was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Ragsdale 43-8. The Whirlies' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Grimsley's win came from a few key players Page will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ty Shoemake, who rushed for 67 yards and two scores, and also picked up 56 receiving yards and one touchdown. Those 67 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Brody Lowe was another key player, throwing for 266 yards and four TDs while completing 75% of his passes.
Page's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Grimsley, their victory bumped their record up to 7-0.
Page was dealt a bruising 54-7 defeat at the hands of Grimsley in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
