With a playoff win on the line, Scholars Guild Academy rose to the challenge on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cornerstone Prep Academy Cougars a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Spartans have won 14 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jacob Chupp made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Ty Newton was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Will Pittman was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Scholars Guild Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.
