The McDonald's All-American Game rosters are expected to be
released Tuesday, Jan. 24 between 3-4 p.m. EST on ESPN's NBA Today. Today, we take a crack at predicting the 24-player roster, break down likely locks to get an invite, explore who is on the bubble and who just may be
on the outside looking in.
The name that will garner the most attention Tuesday is
Bronny James of
Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.).
James is likely to get the nod for the showcase after
averaging 15 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.6 steals and two steals through the
first half of the season for the Trailblazers.
Regarded as the No. 34 prospect in the Class of
2023 by 247Sports, the 6-foot-3 guard's candidacy no doubt benefits from the legacy of being
the son of one of the all-time greats in LeBron James. He has been the most high-profile player in high school basketball for the past four years and has handled the pressure and scrutiny with aplomb.
While Bronny isn't necessarily a lock to make the roster, many scouts believe
that the Sierra Canyon senior will make the cut over higher-ranked
peers.
Other top prospects that should be considered on the bubble for an invitation on Tuesday include
Layden Blocker and
Miro Little of Sunrise Christian Academy,
Taison Chatman of
Totino-Grace (Fridley, Minn.),
Dennis Evans of
Hillcrest (Riverside, Calif.),
Amani Hansberry of
Mount St. Joseph (Baltimore, Md.),
A.J. Johnson of
Southern California Academy (Castaic, Calif.),
Milan Momcilovic of
Pewaukee (Wis.),
Jackson Shelstad of
West Linn (Ore.),
Reed Sheppard of
North Laurel (London, Ky.),
Sean Stewart of
Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) and
Wesley Yates III of
Beaumont United (Beaumont, Texas) among others.
