Volleyball Game Preview: New Kent Trojans vs. Tabb Tigers + How To Watch

The New Kent Trojans will square off against the Tabb Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While New Kent's win against Lafayette wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Trojans had just enough and edged out the Rams 3-2 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since September 4th.

New Kent was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The final score came out to 15-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 22-20.

New Kent's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Katelynn Moore, who had seven digs and two aces, and Ava Nieto, who had three digs and one assist. Those seven digs gave Moore a new career-high.

They weren't the only good servers: New Kent was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 18 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 31 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Tabb entered their tilt with Poquoson on Tuesday with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. They put the hurt on the Islanders with a sharp 3-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Tigers have posted against the Islanders since October 5, 2021.

Tabb's got stronger as the match went on, holding Poquoson to fewer and fewer points set over set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 28-26, 25-22, 25-20.

New Kent's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Tabb, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.

New Kent came out on top in a nail-biter against Tabb when the teams last played back in September, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
