Baseball Recap: Mater Dei Gets the Win

Mater Dei won the last time they faced Gibault Catholic and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Knights walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Hawks. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.

Chase Zurliene looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Mater Dei: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Mater Dei let Kyler Von Bokel and Hayden Melone run wild. Von Bokel went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Melone went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Those two hits gave Von Bokel a new career-high.

Mater Dei's record now sits at 11-13. As for Gibault Catholic, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-13.

Coming up, Mater Dei will welcome Metro-East Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gibault Catholic, they will head out to face off against Nashville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
