Basketball Recap: Don Lugo Comes Up Short

Don Lugo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 42-36 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ontario Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Conquistadores can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 909th, while the Jaguars are ranked 414th).

Despite the defeat, Don Lugo saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sienna Robles went 7 for 13 en route to 15 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Don Lugo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Don Lugo's loss dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Ontario, their record is now 16-4.

Don Lugo will welcome Diamond Ranch at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Ontario, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Ontario Jaguars duke it out with the Chaffey Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Ontario's defense has only allowed 29.6 points per game this season, so Chaffey's offense will have their work cut out for them.
