Basketball Recap: La Quinta Piles Up the Points Against Samueli Academy

La Quinta had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past the Samueli Academy Firewolves 42-12. Given the Aztecs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 486th, while the Firewolves are ranked 1121st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

La Quinta had a senior duo take command as Katelyn Vo posted 12 points and four steals and Katie Nguyen earned 11 points and seven steals. The dominant performance gave Nguyen a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Tran, who had six points and eight rebounds.

La Quinta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Several Firewolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kennedy Cortez, who put up five points.

La Quinta has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.2 points per game. As for Samueli Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

La Quinta will welcome Santa Ana Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Quinta is on a five-game streak of home wins, Santa Ana Valley a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Samueli Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 0-0 victory against SEED: LA on the 6th.
