Basketball Recap: Sanger Takes a Loss

Sanger lost against San Joaquin Memorial back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Sanger Apaches had to suffer through a 70-26 loss at the hands of the San Joaquin Memorial Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Apaches can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 388th, while the Panthers are ranked 59th).

Sanger's loss came despite strong showings from Ashlyn Ainger and Sofia Aguilar. Ainger posted four points and three steals, while Aguilar had four points.

San Joaquin Memorial was led to victory by Gia Souza and Sienna Evans. Souza dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Evans went 5 for 7 en route to 14 points. What's more, Souza also racked up four steals, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Aaliyah Williams also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Sanger has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season. As for San Joaquin Memorial, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-5.

Sanger has already played their next matchup, a 46-27 defeat against Torres on the 23rd. As for San Joaquin Memorial, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-17 win against Fresno on the 23rd.
