High school football rankings: Champlain Valley Union finishes No. 1 in final Vermont MaxPreps Top 25

RedHawks ride Division I state championship victory to top spot in rankings.

The high school football season in Vermont came to an end over the weekend with champions crowned in three divisions. Champlain Valley Union (Hinesburg) was among the winners, using a late defensive stand to knock off Middlebury in the Division I title game 24-19. That victory helped propel the RedHawks to the No. 1 spot in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.

Champlain Valley Union (10-1) averaged nearly 40 points per game on the season and went unbeaten against in-state competition. The title was the first in school history.

The only unbeaten team in the final rankings is Division III champion Windsor, who beat Bellows Free Academy/Lamoille (Fairfax) 35-21 in the title contest. The Yellowjackets outscored opponents by an average of 28 points per game this season with only one contest decided by less than 14 points.
