Volleyball Recap: Saegertown's Undefeated Season over After Four Games

If Saegertown was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of West Middlesex on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Panthers fell just short of the Slippery Rock Rockets by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 3-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Saegertown took Slippery Rock into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-11, 25-20, 22-25, 15-13.

Lyla Runtas was a one-woman wrecking crew For Slippery Rock. as she had 22 digs and three assists. With that strong performance, Runtas is now averaging an impressive 10.5 digs per game.

Having lost for the first time this season, Saegertown fell to 2-1-1. As for Slippery Rock, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.

Coming up, Saegertown will head out to take on Mercyhurst Prep at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Slippery Rock, they will take on Greenville at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Rockets' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
