Basketball Recap: University City's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

University City can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They came out on top against the Calexico Bulldogs by a score of 37-30. That's more bragging rights for the Centurions, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

University City's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Courtlyn Mitchell, who posted 13 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. Mitchell has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Violet Mendoza also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

University City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

The victory got University City back to even at 10-10. As for Calexico, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.

University City is taking a road trip to take on San Diego at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Calexico has already played their next game (against Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
