Football Recap: South County Stallions vs. West Springfield Spartans
South County fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against West Springfield on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They and the Spartans were almost perfectly matched up, but they suffered a 28-27 defeat. The Stallions gained 98 more yards on the day, but it was the Spartans that made the best use of them.

South County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Miller, who threw for 409 yards and one TD while completing 73.2% of his passes, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Miller's passing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 365 passing yards. A healthy portion of Miller's aerial production (159 yards to be exact) went to Thomas Powell, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
West Springfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Scott Lewis led the charge by rushing for 53 yards and a pair of scores, while also throwing for 134 yards and one touchdown. What's more, Lewis posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Dillan Wickham was another key player, rushing for 160 yards and one TD.
This is the second loss in a row for South County and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for West Springfield, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
South County has already played their next contest, a 17-15 win against Fairfax on the 3rd. As for West Springfield, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 41-23 victory against Woodson on the 3rd.
