Soccer Game Preview: Carlsbad vs. Torrey Pines

The Carlsbad Lancers will face off against the Torrey Pines Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Carlsbad's last three matches have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Torrey Pines will have to contend with a Carlsbad team hungry for a victory, something the squad hasn't seen since December 20. Neither Carlsbad nor Rancho Buena Vista could gain the upper hand on Wednesday so the two teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, Torrey Pines' and Canyon Crest Academy's contest on Wednesday was close at halftime, but Torrey Pines turned on the heat in the second half with four goals. Torrey Pines' defense stepped up to hand Canyon Crest Academy a 5-0 shutout. That looming 5-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Falcons yet this season.

Torrey Pines has also been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 14 goals over those five matches. Carlsbad's draw makes their record 4-6-4 this season.

Carlsbad came up short against Torrey Pines in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 3-1. Can Carlsbad avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
