Softball Recap: Wayne Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Wayne extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday, bumping them up to 4-1. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the O'Neill Eagles. The Blue Devils have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles, too.

Mackenzie Nissen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jordyn Gamble was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Reagan McGuire also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

As for O'Neill, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4. The matchup marked the first time this year in which they were not able to get on the board.

On O'Neill's side, Rylee Selby spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

Wayne didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-8 win against Tekamah-Herman on the 28th. As for O'Neill, they have also already played their next game, a 9-0 victory against Ponca on the 28th.
