Basehor-Linwood hasn't had much luck against St. James Academy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bobcats will face off against the Thunder at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Basehor-Linwood comes in on 11 and St. James Academy on nine.
Basehor-Linwood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 31-7 margin over Leavenworth. Considering the Bobcats have won five games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Basehor-Linwood found their leader in sophomore Gavin Mitchell, who rushed for 114 yards and two TDs. Another player making a difference was Carson Dixon, who threw for 105 yards and one touchdown.
Basehor-Linwood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 249 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 163 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.
Basehor-Linwood didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Tucker Hutchison, Noah Gutierrez, and Talon Elliott picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, St. James Academy faced Mill Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Thunder managed a 45-41 victory over the Jaguars.
Basehor-Linwood better focus on containing John Hornback and Jake House as the pair were huge in St. James Academy's win. Hornback rushed for 101 yards and one score, while House gained 112 total yards and four touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Hornback a new career-high in passing yards (308). Alec Jett was Hornback's top target, picking up 160 receiving yards and one TD.
Basehor-Linwood's win bumped their record up to 11-0. As for St. James Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Dixon and Hornback. Dixon just won't slow down this season and has thrown 20 touchdowns (and and only 4 picks) while averaging 161.5 passing yards per game. Hornback has been a dominant force too and has thrown 19 touchdowns while averaging 169.1 passing yards per game.
Basehor-Linwood lost to St. James Academy on the road by a decisive 37-19 margin when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Bobcats, Tyson Beashore (who rushed for 46 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 191 yards and a pair of TDs) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
