Softball Recap: Mercy Comes Up Short

If Mercy was feeling good fresh off their 15-0 takedown of Buena Vista on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Monarchs came up short against the Fort Calhoun Pioneers on Tuesday, falling 11-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Monarchs of the 9-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Mercy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Audrey Batenhorst, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Mercy has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Fort Calhoun, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-3.

Coming up, Mercy will face off against Ralston at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Monarchs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Fort Calhoun, they will take on Cass at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
