Basketball Recap: Verdugo Hills Picks Up Sixth Straight Win at Home

Verdugo Hills's tournament run continued when they took on Temple City on Saturday. The Verdugo Hills Dons snuck past the Temple City Rams with a 52-46 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Dons.

Verdugo Hills was led to victory by Amiyya Castanos and Rayleen Castanos. Amiyya posted 21 points and six steals, while Rayleen dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds. That's the most boards Rayleen has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Kayla Pimentel, who earned six points.

Temple City's loss came despite strong showings from Kristi Huynh and Abigail Yoshimura. Huynh put up 21 points along with eight rebounds and six assists, while Yoshimura had 15 points. Huynh has been hot, having posted 16 or more points the last six times she's played.

Verdugo Hills pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Temple City, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-4.

Verdugo Hills will be taking part in a tournament against Valencia at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Valencia's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Temple City, they will head out on the road to face off against Yeshiva University of Los Angeles (YULA) at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Yeshiva University of Los Angeles (YULA) will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Temple City surely won't give up without a fight.
