Football Recap: Harlingen South Comes Up Short

It was a Battle of the Birds when Harlingen South faced off against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial on Friday. The Hawks took a 28-14 bruising from the Eagles. If the Hawks were looking for revenge after losing 24-0 to the Eagles when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Austen Shroyer threw for 166 yards and a pair of TDs. Jeziel Ovalle was his top target, picking up 85 receiving yards. On the ground, Kaden Edwards rushed for 33 yards.

It was another big night for Andrew Charlebois, who rushed for 274 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial. Charlebois' rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 124 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Harlingen South now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coincidentally, Harlingen South and Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial will both be playing Donna the next time they take the field. The Eagles will host the Redskins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Hawks will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th.
