San Marcos dropped down to 5-2 on Friday, ending the team's five-game streak of wins. They took a hard 49-35 fall against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks. If the Knights were looking for revenge after losing 30-7 to the Mavericks when the teams met back in September of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, San Marcos still got an impressive performance from Zamar Reese, who rushed for 96 yards and four scores, and also picked up 129 receiving yards and one TD. Reese has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played.

As for La Costa Canyon, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.3 points over those games.

La Costa Canyon had a senior duo take command as Coby Herman gained 216 total yards and three touchdowns and Quinn Roth threw for 204 yards and five touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Marcos will square off against Carlsbad at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The Lancers' defense has only allowed 9.4 points per game this season, so the Knights' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for La Costa Canyon, they will challenge El Camino at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
