Basketball Recap: Friday's Win Is Laton's Fourth in Last Five Outings

Laton hasn't had much luck at home recently (they'd lost five straight) but thanks in part to Gabriella Alvarado that streak is no more. The Laton Mustangs walked away with a 31-23 win over the Alpaugh Buffalos on Friday thanks in part to Alvarado, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games she's played.

Madison Heffley was another key player, putting up three points and 16 rebounds. Those 16 boards gave her a new career-high.

Alpaugh's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rosalyn Perez, who posted six points in addition to nine rebounds and four steals.

Laton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-12 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 16.8 points per game. As for Alpaugh, they dropped their record down to 3-12 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Laton has already played their next contest, a 17-11 victory against Wonderful College Prep Academy on the 27th. As for Alpaugh, they will head out to take on Tranquillity at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
