Baseball Recap: Monroe Extends Winning Streak to Three

Monroe waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Calhoun County Cougars with a sharp 14-2 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 29-1 last Wednesday.

Kyle Vicks was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Monroe: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-13 otherwise.

In other batting news, Monroe got a massive performance out of Daylon Coley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That home run marked the first that Coley launched this season. Kameron Vicks was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases.

Monroe's win bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Calhoun County, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

As of now, neither Monroe nor the Cougars have any future games scheduled.
