Softball Game Preview: Stratford Academy Eagles vs. Gatewood Gators

The Stratford Academy Eagles will challenge the Gatewood Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Stratford Academy can't be too happy about their upcoming road game considering what happened when they opened their season away from home on Thursday. They came up short against Calvary Christian, falling 9-0. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Gatewood didn't have quite enough to beat Southland Academy on Saturday and fell 10-8. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Gators, who until this matchup were averaging 3.5 runs allowed.

Lily Arthur was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Ellie McMillian, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Everything went Stratford Academy's way against Gatewood in their previous matchup back in August of 2024, as Stratford Academy made off with an 8-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
