Recap: Eagle Rock Eagles vs. Granada Hills Charter Highlanders
If the Eagle Rock Eagles were feeling good off their 49-27 takedown of the Taft Toreadors last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Eagle Rock fell 41-30 to Granada Hills Charter on Monday. Eagle Rock has struggled against Granada Hills Charter recently, as their game on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Eagle Rock had strong showings from Haylee Weatherspoon, who scored 14 points along with 8 rebounds and 7 steals, and Audrey Campos, who scored 12 points. Weatherspoon scored a full 46.7% of Eagle Rock's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Eagle Rock were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Granada Hills Charter only pulled down six.
Emma Perez was the offensive standout of the matchup as she scored 7 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. She hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Melendez, who scored 7 points along with 4 steals.
Eagle Rock's defeat dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Granada Hills Charter, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Eagle Rock's road trip will continue as they head out to face Culver City at 8:15 p.m. on December 5th. Culver City presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Eagle Rock in California (Culver City is ranked 195th, while Eagle Rock is ranked 443rd). As for Granada Hills Charter, they will square off against Crossroads at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
