Soccer Game Preview: McDonough vs. Union Grove

For the first time this season, McDonough will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Friday. They will take on the Union Grove Wolverines at 5:30 p.m. Both teams beat their previous opponents by a single goal, so this matchup might be just as contested.

McDonough took a loss when they played away from home on February 11th, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Their defense stepped up to hand Riverdale a 1-0 shutout. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but the Warhawks were the better team in the second half.

Meanwhile, Union Grove won against Dutchtown on February 11th with two goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again on Tuesday. Union Grove had just enough and edged out Luella 2-1. The win continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won three in a row.

Antonio Cisneros and Brett Thompson scored both of Union Grove's goals, which were season-firsts for both players.

Union Grove's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for McDonough, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

McDonough came out on top in a nail-biter against Union Grove in their previous meeting back in February of 2017, sneaking past 1-0. Does McDonough have another victory up their sleeve, or will Union Grove turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
