Basketball Recap: Port Allegany Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Port Allegany and Redbank Valley squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Port Allegany had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Redbank Valley Bulldogs, falling 70-38. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 99th).

Port Allegany lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ella Moses, who posted 19 points. What's more, she also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January of 2024. Brynn Evens was another key player, putting up six points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Port Allegany smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 21 consecutive matchups.

Mylee Harmon was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 38 points and ten boards for Redbank Valley. Harmon is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 20 games she's played. Molly Coil also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Port Allegany's loss dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Redbank Valley, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 20-6.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Port Allegany will host Winchester Thurston at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Redbank Valley, they will square off against Rochester at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
