Baseball Recap: Dudley Comes Up Short

Dudley had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 3-13 to make it four. They came up short against the Southwest Guilford Cowboys, falling 14-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cowboys this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-1 on Tuesday.

As for Southwest Guilford, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-5. Considering they have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Southwest Guilford's part, Kaden Morgan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Morgan has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March of 2025.

In other batting news, Ryan Maness was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Brendan Snider, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Dudley will take on Grimsley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Whirlies have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Southwest Guilford, they will challenge Watauga at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pioneers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Cowboys' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
