Softball Recap: Coronado Cougars vs. Vista Ridge Wolves
Coronado extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-5. They came up short against the Vista Ridge Wolves, falling 17-2. The Cougars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wolves from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.
Coronado saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Leland, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run. Tully Thomas also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
As for Vista Ridge, they now have a winning record of 3-2. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.
On Vista Ridge's side, Kaysen Morgan made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Morgan has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in September of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jocelynn Kalkman, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jaylani Jusino, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Coronado wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 20-6 loss against Rampart on the 29th. As for Vista Ridge, they have also already played their next game, an 11-7 win against Heritage on the 23rd.
