Baseball Recap: Polytech Comes Up Short

Polytech dropped down to 7-10 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Wilmington Friends Quakers by a score of 11-9. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Quakers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2025.

Zayne Collins was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Wilmington Friends, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Wilmington Friends' side, Ronny Berry was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Berry has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Brett Filliben, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Coming up, Polytech will head out to face off against St. Elizabeth at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wilmington Friends, they will welcome Wilmington Charter at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Force have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.4 runs per game on average), something the Quakers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
