Softball Recap: Grand Island Central Catholic Comes Up Short

Grand Island Central Catholic had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 2-2 to make it five. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the York Dukes. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Crusaders, who until this matchup were averaging four runs allowed.

Grand Island Central Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Laura Blake, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run. Eva Tibbetts also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

As for York, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On York's side, Birkley Gray was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Gray a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taytum Methe, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grand Island Central Catholic will welcome St. Paul at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for York, they will host Seward at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Dukes' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
