Baseball Recap: Berea Comes Up Short

Berea had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 7-21 to make it six. They came up short against the Nicholas County Bluejackets, falling 13-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bluejackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-2 back in March.

Nathan Prophitt was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Nicholas County, their record is now 18-20. Considering they have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Nicholas County's side, Avery Sibert made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Sibert also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Nicholas County is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 15-19 otherwise. Sibert was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Nicholas County got a massive performance out of Bentley Crump, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Crump a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayden Robinson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Coming up, Berea is taking a road trip to square off against Madison Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Nicholas County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
