Baseball Recap: Lanier Gets the Win

After only one run in their last game, Lanier made sure to put some runs up on the board against Campbell on Saturday. The Lanier Longhorns skirted past the Campbell Spartans 14-12. The Longhorns' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Elias Barsikh was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Barsikh was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Lawson Smithers looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched.

Back at the plate, Zach Diaz was a standout: he scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Patrick Goodheart was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Lanier always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Lanier's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Campbell, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Lanier has already played their next contest (against Cambridge), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Campbell, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Forsyth at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
