Derek Smith put up the most strikeouts he's had since back in April on Wednesday. As a matter of fact, he produced his best game of the campaign: he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
