Baseball Game Preview: Griffith Panthers vs. Whiting Oilers

Griffith is 9-1 against Whiting since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Panthers will host the Oilers at 4:30 p.m. Griffith has given up an average of 10.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Griffith came up short against Hammond Bishop Noll and fell 15-11. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost five in a row.

Tyler Miller stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Griffith's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 3-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Quillin, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Whiting was a bit more limited in their game on Monday. They came up short against Marquette Catholic, falling 8-2.

Whiting saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julian Madrueno, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Whiting's loss dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Griffith, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.

Everything went Griffith's way against Whiting in their previous meeting on Tuesday, as Griffith made off with a 16-7 win. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Oilers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
