Basketball Recap: Vista Murrieta Triumphs

If Great Oak wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Vista Murrieta, they should've done a better job of containing Shajade Banks. The Vista Murrieta Broncos came out on top against the Great Oak Wolfpack by a score of 59-48 on Wednesday thanks in part to Banks, who went 10 of 18 en route to 24 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Vista Murrieta's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Alana Burnett, who posted six points and 17 boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in rebounds.

Great Oak's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brianna Thomas, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. Thomas has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Morgan Grayton was another key player, putting up ten points and four steals.

Vista Murrieta's win bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Great Oak, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-13.

Vista Murrieta has already played their next game, a 57-46 victory against Murrieta Valley on the 31st. As for Great Oak, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 54-51 win against Chaparral on the 31st.
