North Crowley stuns No. 5 DeSoto, 57-51.

The upsets continued on Saturday as Boyle County (Danville, Ky.) took down No. 12 St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) 38-21 on the road. The four-time defending 4A state champs extending their winning streak to 23. It was the first loss for the three-time defending Division I state champs against an out-of-state opponent since 2018. Boyle County shutout the Eagles 17-0 in the second half.

The Rebels three-star wide receiver Montavin Quisenberry was the best player on the field rushing for over 100 yards and three scores to go with a 69-yard touchdown pass to Geo Brown. The 2025 West Virginia commit intercepted a Thomas Csanyi pass in the fourth quarter to ice the game.

The senior class at No. 5 DeSoto (Texas) only has faint memories of what a loss feels like with the last setback coming Oct. 28, 2022 to rival Duncanville. The Eagles have rattled off 23 consecutive wins since – most in lopsided fashion – en route to back-to-back Class 6A Division 2 state titles.

But that streak came to an end Friday night as North Crowley (Fort Worth) outscored DeSoto 57-51 in a wild shootout.

The teams combined for 63 first-half points but that was merely a warm-up for the fireworks to come in the final 24 minutes.

DeSoto hit a field goal to take a 44-43 lead with a little over 11 minutes to go. But Cornelius Warren III put North Crowley back on top 49-44 less than 20 seconds later with a 66-yard yard touchdown run.

Daniel Bray helped the Panthers add to the lead minutes later with a 63-yard touchdown run. North Crowley converted a 2-point try to make it 57-44.

The defending state champions got a short TD run from Kelden Ryan with 25 seconds left to go, pulling to within six but it was too little too late.

North Crowley went 26-2 during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, falling in the Class 6A Division 1 semifinals a year ago. The Panthers opened 2024 with a hard-fought win over Lancaster but Friday’s upset of DeSoto may be the one that puts the program on the map in a big way.

The weekend's most highly-anticipated affair was No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) vs. No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.). The top-ranked Monarchs made surprisingly easy work of the the visiting Gaels in a 31-15 win, keeping the defending national champs under 100 yards of total offense until the final minutes of the game. Aaron Williams of MaxPreps has the recap on that one.

In other Friday action, No. 9 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) and No. 23 Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) posted big wins in head-to-head matchups with MaxPreps Top 25 teams.

IMG Academy took advantage of four turnovers by No. 11 Cocoa (Fla.) en route to a 34-13 win. The Ascenders picked off junior Michigan commit Brady Hart three times to improve to 2-1.

Senior quarterback Ty Hawkins, a SMU commit, threw three touchdown passes in the win for IMG Academy.

Bergen Catholic dominated the second half of its matchup with No. 24 Massillon (Ohio) for a 35-21 victory. The game was tied 21-21 at halftime but the Crusaders pulled away late to snap the Ohio school's 18-game win streak.
