Baseball Recap: Heritage Sets Scoring Season-High Against South Gwinnett

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Heritage). Everything went their way against the South Gwinnett Comets on Monday as the Heritage Patriots made off with an 18-2 win. Considering the Patriots have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Denzel Gillespie made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Heritage got a massive performance out of Mason Lynch, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Lynch has become a key player for Heritage: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Will Bush was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4.

Heritage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Heritage and bumps their season record up to 8-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for South Gwinnett, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Heritage will venture away from home to take on Rockdale County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season. As for South Gwinnett, they will head out on the road to face off against Heritage at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday.
