Basketball Recap: Aurora Falls Despite Big Games from Kenna Merrihew and Hailey Hoff

Aurora lost against York back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Aurora Huskies lost to the York Dukes on the road by a 59-44 margin. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Dukes are ranked 23rd).

Despite the loss, Aurora had strong showings from Hailey Hoff, who posted 16 points and seven rebounds, and Kenna Merrihew, who had nine points. Those 16 points gave Hoff a new career-high.

Chloe Koch was her usual excellent self, to rack up 24 points in addition to seven boards and five assists for York. Koch has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kinslee Kern, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Aurora has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season. The victory (which was York's 11th in a row) raised their record to 22-2.

Aurora does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for York, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 45-36 defeat against Seward on the 25th.
